Well, because world is surprisingly a smaller place now. So small that it fits in the Palm of your hands .With the development of "world is a global village" outlook, now people are circling round the globe for various purposes of their own. We are no more
living in isolation but constantly connecting with each other. In such a situation, commu- nication is a must activity since humans talk and we talk different languages. The problem
then, is-if India don't talk French and France don't talk Chinese, how will there be any sort of communication talking place between the people of those places? That's when we
need English, the common language of the world. And India and English go hand in hand. Thanks to the British colonizers almost every citizen of India-literate, illiterate, consciously, unconsciously knows something about this
language, even ifjust a word-bat ball etc. Since Independence this particular foreign tongue has been à ctively incorporated in the education system of our country a country with dozens of languages official unofficial having their own set of speakers, institutions and scripts (some don't). Yet, despite being the care subject of study in schools and colleges a large number of learners' weakness in the language, especially in the rural areas is
evident. Why? Our social environment. That is one of the important factors having profound impact upon us. Outside or inside the home, nobody bothers about English. Countable
even if. Then? Then the formal centre of learning like School and Colleges become the sole hope which may again be dominated by the native tongue to the negligence of the
educators or the authority. As such there is little chance of learners being exposed to the outside English apart from the poems, essays, stories etc prescribed in their books. Then,
it is only natural that some students find it extremely tiresome to learn and difficult to appreciate this language which has words like -tough, /tafl, though/dou/, through /Oru:/, thorough/ 0nrs/ ete appearing almost a like yet having different meanings and pronun- ciations. Like any other language learning process, learning English also requires the four language skills- listening, speaking, reading and writing with speaking coming last. We read and write English first. Therefore it is important that learners are taught to read with proper pronunciations which influences speaking and writing. Incorrect reading may lead to incorrect writing. As far as speaking is concerned, there are different accents of English based on the geographical area, over the world. India alone has plenty of versions of English influenced by regional tone. But that seems to be no problem considering our non English ancestry and as long as words are pronounced understandably which is possible through the effective guidance in the school where learners are introduced with English. Creating interest in their minds is also very important without which even God won't be of
any help. lough it may seem and tough it is yet not impossible since we humans are Cur ous by nature. It is our curiosity which constantly fuels our ques for better in everything, wealth, health which can be realized through exploratÃon, collaboration
business among individuals and nations all of which are nearly impossible without knowing English. It is safe to say that knowing English broadens the horizon of opportunity. so it is time that instead of whining over weakness people start to read
English, write English breath, eat and sleep English because when everybody is marching forward, who would like to stay behind?
